BREITLING – "Watch of a famous Swiss luxury watch manufacturer.”
When it comes to luxury timepieces that seamlessly blend aviation-inspired design with precision craftsmanship, Breitling is a name that often soars above the rest. Breitling is a Swiss luxury watchmaker founded in 1884 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, by Léon Breitling. The company is known for its precision-made chronometers designed for aviators and today is still in operation and based in Grenchen, Switzerland. This iconic watch company has a history that's as rich and storied as the intricate movements ticking inside their beloved timepieces.
The company initially focused on producing high-quality chronographs and precision instruments for various industrial and scientific purposes. During World War I, Breitling gained prominence for supplying military forces with chronographs and other timing instruments, particularly those used in aircraft cockpits. This association with aviation marked the beginning of Breitling's longstanding connection to the world of flight.
Historically, Breitling has sourced movements from suppliers such as Valjoux, ETA, and Venus rather than producing movements in-house; however, in 2009 Breitling developed the B01, a self-winding, column wheel chronograph movement, for use in the Breitling Chronomat 01 and Navitimer 01.

Automatic Chronograph
Pilot’s Watch
Step into the world of precision and luxury with the Breitling Chronomat A13048, a stunning timepiece that embodies the perfect blend of functionality and style. This automatic chronograph, crafted for both pilots and watch enthusiasts, distinguishes itself with its durable construction and classic design.
The Breitling Chronomat A13048 belongs to the renowned Chronomat collection, known for its strong ties to aviation and exceptional precision. The Chronomat was originally introduced in 1942 as a tool watch equipped with a slide rule bezel, designed for scientists and mathematicians. It was one of the first timepieces to combine a chronograph function with a rotating bezel, setting a new standard in watchmaking.
The A13048 is part of the 1990s iteration of the Chronomat, a time when Breitling further refined the model to cater to both aviation professionals and luxury watch collectors. Despite its evolution, the A13048 retains the signature rider tabs on the bezel, a distinctive design feature introduced in the early 1980s in collaboration with the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force aerobatic team. These tabs were specifically designed to allow easy manipulation of the bezel, even while wearing gloves.
This Breitling Chronomat is powered by the Breitling caliber 13, a modified Valjoux 7750 movement, customized to meet Breitling’s strict performance standards. This watch offers reliable automatic chronograph functionality.
The Valjoux 7750 features a sub-second hand and a date function, both of which are standard in many of its variations. The date is automatically adjusted at midnight, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (vph), or 4 Hz, which ensures smooth operation of both the second hand and chronograph functions. The Valjoux 7750 provides a power reserve of approximately 42-48 hours, depending on usage, meaning it will continue running for up to two days after being fully wound.
For the chronograph function, the movement includes a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour counter, and the standard central chronograph seconds hand, making it ideal for timing events or intervals.
The Valjoux 7750 is a reliable and highly regarded chronograph movement, known for its excellent balance of performance, durability, and value. It is considered one of the best chronograph calibers available, making it a key component in many popular luxury watches, and is particularly favored by military, aviation, and sports enthusiasts.
The watch features a textured blue dial with silver baton hour markers and luminous indices, along with a white minute/second track. The silver hands are filled with luminescent material for visibility in low light. The date is displayed at 3 o'clock position, while the sub-second hand is located at 9 o'clock. The chronograph 30-minute and 12-hour counters are positioned at 12 and 6 o'clock, respectively. The dial is signed with the iconic Breitling logo and name.
Built for durability, the watch is housed in a 40mm stainless steel case with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, ensuring reliability under various conditions. The unidirectional bezel allows pilots to easily calculate elapsed time, even while wearing gloves. It also features 100m water resistance, making it suitable for everyday wear and offering protection during light aquatic activities.
The Chronomat A13048 is a versatile timepiece that effortlessly transitions from casual to formal settings. Its iconic design and reliable performance make it a standout addition to any collection. The blue dial version of the A13048, in particular, is highly regarded for its striking appearance, appealing to collectors who appreciate bold yet refined aesthetics.
