TUDOR

“The Tudor”, a trademark registered in Geneva in February 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf at the house of Veuve de Philippe Hüther, a watchmaker and watch dealer. Hans Wilsdorf acquired the exclusive usage rights from the dealer. “For some years now, I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standard of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the TUDOR watch company.” - H. Wilsdorf.

Vintage Tudor-signed watches included models for both men and women; they were mainly rectangular, barrel-shaped, or with beveled sides. The first watches displayed a simple TUDOR name/logo on the dial, with the horizontal bar of the T lengthened above the other letters. Additionally, some early pieces featured the name Rolex on the dial. Rolex would effectively guarantee the technical and aesthetic quality of Tudor watches until the brand attained autonomy in this field.

On 15 October 1936, the house of Veuve de Philippe Hüther transferred the brand “The Tudor” to Hans Wilsdorf. During this same period, the rose of the TUDOR dynasty appeared on the dials. Inscribed within a shield, this logo symbolizes the invincible union of strength—the watch’s robustness—with grace—the beauty of its lines.

On 6 March 1946, with the vision to expand and give the brand a proper identity of its own, Hans Wilsdorf created the “Montres Tudor S.A.” company, specializing in watches for both men and women. Rolex would guarantee the technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics, along with distribution and after-sales service.

TUDOR Black Bay 36

Ref. 79500 Blue Dial

Self-Winding Wristwatch

Originally presented at the Baselworld watch fair in 2016 and released to the market in 2017, this elegant timepiece is both versatile and exceptionally comfortable to wear. It is a pre-owned Tudor Black Bay 36 automatic watch with a stunning blue dial, reference number 79500.

The Black Bay line draws inspiration from Tudor’s rich history of diving watches, blending vintage aesthetics with modern watchmaking techniques. The reference 79500 is part of the Tudor Black Bay 36 collection, which saw a surge in popularity in the years that followed its release.

This automatic watch features Tudor’s self-winding caliber T600 movement, renowned for its precision and reliability. With an approximate power reserve of 38 hours, it operates at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour and incorporates 26 jewels. Additional highlights include a hacking mechanism and a sweeping second hand, all meticulously crafted in Switzerland.

The watch features a stunning navy-blue dial adorned with “snowflake” hands and lume-filled indices. At 12 o’clock, an elongated triangle points to the subtle Tudor shield logo, while rectangular batons mark the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. Each hour in between is indicated by a circular marker, with all indices filled with white lume that glows green in low-light conditions.

The dial prominently displays the Tudor name and logo, along with "Geneve," while just above the 6 o’clock marker, the word "ROTOR" is shown horizontally, accompanied by "SELF-WINDING" following the curve of the dial beneath it—making this the only watch in the Black Bay lineup to feature such distinctive curved text.

Housed in a 36mm round stainless-steel case featuring both polished and satin finishes, this watch has a smooth, polished steel bezel and a sapphire crystal. It includes a stainless-steel screw-down crown with a black anodized aluminum winding crown tube, which is signed with the Tudor rose logo in relief—a nod to one of the brand's historical logos. The watch is also waterproof up to 150 meters (500 feet).

It comes with the original signed Tudor brown two-piece leather strap, featuring a stainless-steel folding clasp and a safety buckle.

This wristwatch is visually appealing and complements any outfit beautifully. It is in good condition, keeps accurate time, and operates smoothly.

Vintage watches are generally smaller than contemporary models. Men’s watches typically range from 29 to 36mm in width (with some being larger or smaller), excluding the crown. In our listings, we strive to include all relevant dimensions of each watch. If you don’t see a specific measurement or if we’ve overlooked it, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Women’s watches from the 1900s to the 1970s were also significantly smaller than today’s offerings. Feel free to ask any questions regarding size.

We prefer to take photographs outdoors when the weather allows. However, when shooting indoors, please note that we use lightboxes equipped with 360 LED bulbs, which can magnify any flaws that may be less noticeable to the naked eye. That said, we never use Photoshop to alter our images or remove blemishes. While we may adjust the lighting as needed, what you see is what you get, and we take pride in that.
